What are broken Capillaries?

Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels in the body. They allow water, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and other nutrients and waste substances to exchange between blood and surrounding tissues. The visible capillaries on your face are not "broken" capillaries. They are permanently dilated small blood vessels called telangiectasias. Acquired telangiectasia can be caused by factors such as acne rosacea, environmental sun damage, extreme cold exposure , excess alcohol or caffeine or prolonged trauma to skin due to incorrect skincare. You perhaps might be genetically prone to developing dilated capillaries if you have fair skin and are of English decent.

How can I treat broken capillaries?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a high energy broad spectrum light source and is very effective in treating facial telangiectasia. IPL causes damage to the blood vessels by a process called selective photothermolysis. The treatment is applied by placing a hand-held unit on your skin. This generates an intense pulse of light into the skin which is absorbed by a red colour element within the blood vessel called haemosiderin. Once the light from the IPL device hits the red colour elements (chromophore) it turns to heat energy. This destroys these abnormally dilated capillaries but leaves the surrounding skin unscathed.

Inaar skin and Body have developed treatment protocols that utilise a variety of techniques and modalities to reduce the visible signs of dilated capillaries or prolonged redness.
